My Background

My background includes a successful tenure in the radio broadcast industry, producing the highly-rated morning show at 94.7, The WAVE in Los Angeles and assistant-producing The Mark & Brian Radio Show at 95.5, KLOS (which was #1 in the market, at the time). During my years at The Wave, I was featured in many bits and co-hosted many events with on-air talent. My job included show prep, writing, editing, interviewing (see below), board op, call screening, event promotions and the public affairs department. With the M&B Show, I helped produce some of their biggest events, such as The Annual Christmas Show, The Day Before Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Drive-In’s and many others. In between KLOS and The Wave, I freelanced on a television project with Donny Osmond Productions, helping to produce the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon at KCET Television where I handled teleprompter, talent coordination and assisted on vignette production. In my earlier years, I produced, wrote and hosted (and voiced) local cable shows than ran on Cox Cable and held down several on-air shifts at a KSBR, a contemporary jazz station. My professional career started in media and public relations and marketing with an emphasis on events. I won several awards for event management and pr campaigns during my years working at an agency, as a freelancer and as the director of marketing and media relations for an international art festival. During all of this, I have always been involved in health and fitness, teaching group exercise classes, personal training and, at one point, working as a master trainer for Star Trac and Rollerblade/Italy. 94.7, Wave interviews: David Sanborn, Pat Metheny, David Benoit, Boney James, Joe Sample, (the late and so amazing) Grover Washington, Jr., Mick Huknall (Simply Red), Peter White and John Tesh.

Education/Training/Instructing
I have an M.A., in management and leadership from Webster University/Irvine; a B.A., in journalism/minor in Spanish from South Dakota State University; and, I take voiceover and acting classes on a continuous basis (recently spending 18-months in training before embarking on this career). I have countless fitness certifications and I’ve also written for national and international fitness publications. I currently teach one course for the radio/tv/film department at Saddleback College (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and I instruct indoor cycling (spin) classes at a few local health clubs.

Personal
Although I was raised in South Dakota, I was born in Fort Worth, Texas. My father is from Peru, a country that I have visited several times and have come to love and appreciate (the people, the culture and the landscape) very much. I am a  happily married mother of two boys. My husband is from Iowa, but I don’t hold that against him!

As a professional
As talent and in any job, I bring conscientiousness, versatility and enthusiasm. I can memorize copy, ad-lib/improv, use a teleprompter, interview and report; I love comedy and I not afraid of drama; I can go 100-percent corporate and conservative but I can be a mom, a daughter and a girlfriend or a disco queen at a nightclub; I love to host, emcee and speak; and, most definitely, I can move back and forth between all of them! (I can also help write and produce on your projects, but I am respectful of boundaries and thus, I will never criticize or offer unsolicited advice on any project that I am hired to work on as “talent”!) Bottom line, I love what I do and I am always prepared to take direction until you and/or the client is satisfied!

My philosophy
My philosophy is best summarized in one of my favorite quotes: people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. I do care. I bring passion and a genuine desire to help you achieve your goals in every working situation, paid or volunteered. And, of course, I like to have fun so I try my best to make it that way for all of us!
